Meet EmoWL, Malaysia Gaming Content Creator

EmoWL, also known as Wei Lin, is a successful gaming content creator from Malaysia. She has been actively providing gaming services since the early days of Gank, and even has a good standing on our earnings leaderboard!
Tell us about your journey and how it started?
To be honest, I started to use this platform because of curiosity. At first, I saw a few people sharing about this platform while I was streaming on Twitch. I didn’t really know what it was back then, but somehow it really caught my attention. It was the first time I’ve heard about “Gamepals”, which is now better known as Gaming Creators on the platform. So, I tried to download the app (there were only the mobile app versions back then) and have a look and I’ve been on Gank ever since.
I started by creating an account and checking out every function on the platform. I also checked out how other gamepals set up their services and learn from them. At first, I just want to create some gaming service listings for fun. I didn’t think that people will really hire me. But to my surprise, I had my first customer not long after setting up! Since then, the number of people hiring me grew. I am meeting more people that play the same game as me in different countries nowadays.
To be honest, not every game I play with customers is a winning game, I don’t guarantee that. But surprisingly, they didn’t really mind losing too and at the end of the day, both sides win, simply because we had loads of fun. So, this is my advice to all up-and-coming gaming creators – don’t worry if you’re not a pro gamer. Just be friendly with them, try your best in games, and have fun!
What is a typical day like for you?
Well, on a typical weekday, I wake up early in the morning and go to work. After work, I go back home and have dinner before I start streaming my games till 11 p.m. or 12 p.m. Sometimes I will just lie on my bed and relax while putting on a face mask before sleeping. On the weekend, I’ll sleep in until noon, have my lunch, and stream while playing games.
I do find time to hang out with my friends or family, but I really enjoy playing games the whole day and chatting with my supporters instead, although it might look boring to others. My time spent in-game and with my supporters help me forget about the stress of work.
Why choose EMOWL?
EmoWL was actually my game name when I first created my steam account. Emo can actually mean (èmó) in Chinese and also from the word “emoji”. When I first created this nickname, it was a trend for many Chinese gamers to have nicknames with an angelic or devilish (playful) persona. I feel that the devilish persona is more suitable for my character since I am a bit playful and the Chinese word for evil is (èmó).
I am a proud Gemini girl, the type that changes their emotions very quickly. Emojis are the way best to show people’s emotions and feelings in our time, so the array of emotions available in the world of Emojis really suits my personality. This is where the name “EMO” comes from. The last part of my nickname “WL” is actually a short form of my real name, Wei Lin. That was how I put together this unique nickname of mine.
Biggest challenge and achievement on Gank
I feel that the biggest challenge I faced on Gank is that there are too many talented gamers around and they are much better than me in terms of the size of their fan base and ultimately, their gaming skills. This, however, will not cause me to give up, but rather inspire me to continue growing in order to be better! I believe that I will one day become like them too. For now, I am really happy that I have achieved at least what I wanted, like followers, subscribers, and also supporters in Gank. I also make new friends with my customers, and they are treating me so well here. I really enjoy and have fun with them.
